Job Purpose

The Senior Estimator leads the Pre-Construction/Estimating team, overseeing bid package development and ensuring accurate cost estimates. This role supports team members, reviews submissions, and approves final estimates for client consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Project Estimating: Oversee estimates for commercial construction projects up to $15M, including tenant improvements, remodels, and ground-up construction, while directly managing larger, self-assigned estimates.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Assign projects to Estimating Team members based on experience, provide mentorship, and collaborate closely with junior estimators and coordinators throughout the bid development process.
  • Bid Package Development: Review bid documents, analyze drawings and specifications, prepare cost and labor estimates, and create historical cost templates for future use.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Determine necessary bid packages, solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers, review proposals for completeness, and qualify bids to ensure accurate scope coverage.
  • Client & Project Handoff Support: Submit bid packages, address client inquiries, participate in site visits and meetings, and collaborate with the Project Management team for a seamless transition from pre-construction to execution.

Requirements

  • Experience & Industry Knowledge: Minimum of seven years of experience in a commercial construction environment with expertise in estimating and pre-construction processes.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert in using electronic plan reading and take-off software to develop accurate estimates and bid packages.
  • Project Management Understanding: Strong knowledge of project-specific General Conditions and General Requirements to ensure comprehensive and competitive estimates.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to lead estimating teams, assign projects, and mentor junior team members in the bid development process.
  • Certification (Preferred): Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation is preferred but not required.
